Bihar rode on a century by Avinash Kumar to thrash Orissa by nine wickets on the last day of their four-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Tata Digwadi Stadium in Jamadoba today. This was overall defeat No 62 in 144 Ranji Trophy matches for Orissa and 24 in 42 matches against Bihar.
After new captain Ranjay Raul, who replaced Ranjib Biswal, won the toss and chose to bat, Orissa made a competitive total of 247, thanks to a half-century by No 9 batsman Subash Chandra Mohanty. In reply, Bihar rode on a century by Avinash Kumar to muster 369 and took a first-innings lead of 122 runs.
In the second innings, Orissa were bowled out for 193 despite a half-century each by P Jayachandra and Shiv Sundar Das. Bihar won the match, easily chasing down a modest target of 72 runs, losing one wicket in the process. Among other notable Orissa performers, captain Raul bagged a career best haul of six wickets for 106 runs. Gautam Gopal and Debabrata Kanungo made first-class debut for Orissa in this match.
